How to read a net worth candle
- Each candle is one period. The body runs from your net worth at the start (open) to where it ended (close).
- A rising candle means you ended the period richer than you started it; a falling one means you ended poorer.
- The thin wicks reach the highest and lowest points in between. A long lower wick is a dip you climbed back out of.
Questions
What is a net worth candlestick chart?
It is the chart traders use for stock prices, applied to your own money. Each candle covers one period and shows four numbers: your net worth at the start, the highest and lowest points, and where it ended. A line chart only shows where each period ended; candles also show the swings in between.
How often should I record my net worth?
Once a month is enough to see the trend. If you write it down more often — after payday or a big purchase — the candles grow wicks that show the ups and downs inside each month.
Is my data saved or uploaded?
Nothing is uploaded. The chart is drawn in your browser, and your numbers are kept only in this browser’s local storage so they are still here next time. “Clear all” removes them.
How do I work out my net worth?
Add up what you own — cash, bank balances, investments, things you could sell — and subtract what you owe, such as credit cards and loans. The result can be negative; the chart works the same way.
