Privacy Policy

In one sentence: Gleanly has no account, no analytics and no server of ours. Your library stays on your device; if you turn on iCloud sync yourself, it goes only into your own iCloud. In neither case can we reach it.

Who we are

Gleanly (Chinese name 拾遗, bundle id com.zsf.shiyi) is an app for keeping links shared from other apps together with your own notes, photos, voice notes and videos. It is built and operated by Yovia, an independent developer (2569541858@qq.com).

What we collect

Nothing. Gleanly has no account system and integrates no third-party analytics, advertising or crash-reporting SDKs. There is no tracking. We operate no server that receives your library, so we cannot access any of it.

What stays on your device

The items you save — titles, notes, links, sources, collections, favorites, dates and the trash — and the files you add (photos, videos, voice notes, documents, webpage snapshots and thumbnails) are stored in Gleanly's storage on your device. Gleanly and its share extension (“Save to Gleanly”) use the same App Group container so that something you share from another app appears in your library.

Text in your images and PDFs is recognized on your device to make it searchable. Nothing is sent anywhere for recognition.

Unless you turn it off in Settings, titles, notes, tags and recognized text are also added to the on-device iPhone Search index so you can find items from Search. The optional home screen widget reads your library on the device. Neither is uploaded.

With iCloud sync off, deleting the app also deletes this data. Export a backup first (Settings → Export backup) if you want to keep it.

Permissions

  • Photos: photos and videos are added through the system photo picker. Gleanly only receives the items you select and never asks for access to your whole library.
  • Microphone: requested only when you choose to record a voice note, or a video with sound. The recording is saved on your device.
  • Camera: requested only when you choose to take a photo or record a video for a note. Photos and videos you take this way are saved on your device in Gleanly, not added to your photo library.

Gleanly does not request location, contacts or tracking permission.

Connections to websites

Gleanly does not contact any server of ours. It connects directly to the website or service involved, only for the following:

  • Link preview:when you save a link, or open a saved link that has no cover, Gleanly loads that page to read its title and cover image. You can turn this off under Settings → Links & Search; previews are then fetched only when you ask.
  • In-app browser: opening an original link loads the website like any browser would. Each browser session uses temporary website data that is discarded when you close it; it does not share Safari logins or cookies.
  • Save page for offline reading: when you choose it, Gleanly downloads the images of the page you are reading again and saves the article text and those images on your device, so you can read it without internet. The saved copy runs no scripts.
  • Direct media download: when you choose to download a public audio or video file link, Gleanly downloads that file and saves it on your device.
  • Translation:translating a page uses Apple's on-device Translation framework. iOS may download a language model from Apple the first time.

Those websites handle your visit under their own privacy policies.

iCloud sync (optional, off by default)

iCloud sync is part of Gleanly Plus and is off by default. It starts only after you turn it on in Settings.

Where the data goes: through Apple's CloudKit into the private database of your own iCloud account. That storage is provided by Apple and tied to your Apple Account; as the developer we cannot access it.

What syncs: titles, notes (including excerpts you confirmed), links, sources, dates, collections, favorites, trash state, searchable text, thumbnails and file information such as names and sizes. Unless you turn off Sync originals, your original photos, videos, voice notes, documents and webpage snapshots are stored in the same private iCloud database so they appear on your other devices. All of it uses your iCloud storage.

When you permanently delete an item, its originals are also removed from iCloud the next time Gleanly syncs.

Retention and deletion: turning sync off does not delete what is already in iCloud. You can delete it at any time under the system Settings → your name → iCloud → Manage Account Storage → Gleanly.

Purchases

Gleanly Plus is a one-time in-app purchase handled entirely by the App Store. Gleanly reads your purchase status through Apple's StoreKit to unlock features; it never sees your payment details.

Sharing and backups

Data leaves Gleanly only when you actively share an item or export a backup. It then goes through the iOS share sheet to a destination you choose yourself. Backups are standard ZIP files without password protection; keep them somewhere you trust.

Your choices

You can edit or move any item to the trash, restore it, or delete it permanently. Items in the trash are permanently deleted after 30 days. If iCloud sync is on, deletions also sync to your other devices. Backups you have exported are not affected by deletions in the app.

Third-party services

Gleanly integrates no third-party analytics, advertising or crash-reporting SDKs. Apple services it uses — iCloud, the App Store and the Translation framework — are governed by Apple's privacy policy:apple.com/legal/privacy

Children

Gleanly is not directed to children and collects no personal information, so no children's personal data is involved.
